The
former Soul Coughing frontman collaborated with dance producer
BT on the song "Never Gonna Come Back Down", which
appears on BT's album Movement In Still Life.
Doughty
has performed select dates around the country throughout 2000.
Doughty
is currently hard at work on his first full-length solo LP.
Doughty's
unreleased 1996 solo album, Skittish, has been so widely bootlegged
that fans regularly sing along with songs that appear on it.
Skittish, which was produced by Kramer (Galaxie 500, Low),
includes a cover of Mary J. Blige's "Real Love."
Doughty
runs a bulletin board web site at www.superspecialquestions.com
where anyone can drop by and join one of the many discussions.
He is an active participant in the conversations, which range
in topic from comic books to politics.
The
New York Press continues to publish Doughty's occasional columns,
which he has been writing since 1998. The column, "Dirty Sanchez,"
is a satirical gossip column that has stirred up a fair amount
of controversy among its readers.
Doughty
wrote a play called "Sizeable Town" as part of a 24-Hour Plays
workshop. The challenging process requires a playwright (or
several of them) to write an entire one-act play, find actors,
rehearse and stage the production in only 24 hours. Doughty
was featured in an NPR segment about 24-Hour Plays.
McSweeney's
Quarterly Concern, a magazine started by former Esquire editor
David Eggers, will feature a collaboration between Doughty
and They Might Be Giants' John Flansburgh on the audio CD
included with an upcoming issue. The song, "A Frog Playing
A Banjo," is intended to accompany a cartoon in the magazine
by renowned comic artist Chris Ware.
