Julia "Butterfly" Hill finally climbed down from her perch
180 feet above the earth December 18, 1999. She had been living
on an 8 by 8 foot wooden platform atop a 600-year-old Redwood
she calls Luna since December 10, 1997 in protest against
the logging of ancient forests. Her spirit and devotion has
touched the souls of many who have heard of her plight. To
quote Ms. Hill herself, "those things of real worth in life
are worth going to any length in love and respect to safeguard."
We at the tour are lucky to have Julia joining our Spring
2000 Spitfire tour in person! She continually encourages social
responsibility and will be speaking her thoughts across the
country...

"I
gave my word to this tree, the forest, and all the people
that my feet would not touch the ground until I had done everything
in my power to make the world aware of this problem and to
stop the destruction." On December 10th, 1997, 23 year old
Julia Butterfly Hill climbed 180 feet up an ancient redwood
she calls Luna and has not come down. In the American tradition
of civil disobedience, she is conducting her courageous vigil
on behalf of one of the last wild places left in our country,
the remaining 3% of our magnificent old growth forests. Join
in solidarity with Luna, Julia and all those who are speaking
out on behalf of our last old growth forests by visiting her
website.
